A spherical bearing consists of an outer ring, an inner ring and a locking feature that makes the inner ring captive within the outer ring in the axial direction only. A spherical bearing is a bearing that permits angular rotation about a central point in two orthogonal directions. Typically these bearings support a rotating shaft in the bore of the inner ring that must move not only rotationally, but also at an angle.
Most spherical bearings have an outer raceway that is a portion of a sphere and as such, they are internally self-aligning. Each roller has a curved form at right angles to the direction of rotation, which conforms relatively closely to the inner and outer raceways. This gives this bearing high radial load carrying capacity.
